Greetings!

This issue is dedicated to getting the most out of your business AND your life during these frigid winter months! What has this chilly Chicago winter brought to you? Are you out braving the cold winds and snow filled streets? Have you thought about going out for some winter season fun to enjoy the many events that Chicago has to offer?

"Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each. Let them be your only diet drink and botanical medicines."

-- Henry David Thoreau

Evaluating your Business and Saving Money in 2009

With the economy today in a down cycle, most businesses are opting to try and cut costs and pool all their resources to ensure that their company stays afloat. The costs associated with maintaining a business are high enough without worrying about trying to make sure your computers are functioning properly. This would be the perfect time to evaluate your information technology needs by having MXOtech perform an IT Audit. The IT audit is designed to evaluate the reliability of computer generated data and analyze specific programs. In addition, the IT Auditor examines the adequacy of controls in information systems and related operations to ensure system effectiveness. This technical analysis will enable you to save money by eliminating or enhancing certain aspects of your IT infrastructure. Can't find your Blackberry? Blackberry Locator to the rescue!

How many times have you misplaced your phone, car keys, wallet, purse or sunglasses? I know I have lost count of the times I have misplaced my phone so many times I lost count. However, there is good news for all Blackberry owners. There is a new application called "Berry Locator" and this software is designed to help you find your "misplaced" Blackberry.

No matter where your Blackberry is hiding, all you have to do is send a simple email (with a specific trigger-message) and the Berry Locator will generate a sound-off to its location (even if it's in silent mode). If you happen to have abandoned your Blackberry somewhere far-off, Berry Locator will display your email's message on the display, so you can include instructions for how to get your Blackberry back in your hands. If your Blackberry is equipped with GPS, Berry Locator will even reply to your email with a Google map location of where your phone is. If you would like a free trial or to buy the application, feel free to click on the link below.

Portals vs. Websites

We all know about websites but what do we really know about portals? When you think of portals, something sci-fi comes to mind. However, in the information technology world,"portal" means something totally different. Portals are used for making diverse sources of information accessible from a single vantage point.  The key thing to know is that, unlike websites, portals are easily administered by your internal staff to reflect the most up to date information.

Portals can be broken down into two major classifications: 1) the enterprise information portal (announcements of corporate programs, events, quarterly earnings reports), and 2) the web portal (services such as e-mail, news, stock prices, entertainment, and other features). In most cases, you'll find that you need to combine the two implementations in order to meet the full spectrum of your business needs.

Let MXOtech evaluate your business needs to determine how a portal can help you streamline your communication, automate efficiencies, and demonstrate some relevant examples.
