Competitive Hiring in 2008

The market is still very competitive when it comes to qualified candidates, especially in the technology field.  If you are considering hiring new employees for your organization, we recommend that you visit Wage Calculator to determine current market salary ranges.  For instance, if your company is debating whether or not to make room in the budget for a computer programmer, the first question would be, "How much?"  It's simple.  Visit the BLS link above and find out the average salary in the industry.

Good Deeds

Feel like doing something easy for a good cause?  Donate your extra inventory for spring cleaning, and feel good doing it!  We recommend you consider Technology 4 Humanity for your donations of working computers, monitors, scanners, printers, keyboards, and mice; this marvelous organization brings them to people with disabilities and other worthy recipients.  Visit Technology 4 Humanity for details on how your company can participate.

Speed Up Your PC

Is your computer running slow?  Well, before you go out and buy a new computer, there are a few things you can do to get that speed back.

The first thing you can try is to run an application called CCleaner.  The program's Cleaner section deletes extraneous files that Microsoft leaves behind, which take up space on your hard drive. The other section of CCleaner is Registry. Microsoft tracks software and hardware in the registry.  When there are changes to the registry, entries can be "orphaned," slowing down your computer.

To use CCleaner you have to install it, downloading the program from CCleaner.  (If you do not want the Yahoo! Tool Bar, you can uncheck this option during installation.)  After installation, run CCleaner from your start menu (all programs - CCleaner) or desktop shortcut. When the application opens, it will be on the Cleaner section. After selecting the blue "REGISTRY" icon on the left, click on "Scan for Issues." CCleaner will now scan your computer for any bad entries. After CCleaner has finished scanning, click on the "Fix these Issues" button. CCleaner will now ask if you want to make a back up of the current registry.  It is recommended that you backup the registry before you fix the issue. After backing up, CCleaner will correct registry issues. You may need to repeatedly scan the registry to fix all issues.

In our next newsletter, I will be letting you know about Disk Defragmenter--another tool for speeding up your computer.
