Microsoft last month released Internet Explorer 8, the company's latest entry into the browser market, proclaiming that this latest version sports new features, faster page loads and a compatibility viewer that it hopes will eliminate the issues that occurred with previous web browser introductions. On closer inspection, a little web surfing has shown a number of problems rendering pages even in compatibility mode. It is true that when compared to Internet Explorer 7, the new IE8 loads web-pages faster but it is still sluggish relative to Mozilla and downright plodding compared to Google's Chrome. We offer the following alternatives (all of which are free to download from their respective sites):

- Stick with Internet Explorer 7. You can ignore Windows Automatic Update's request to install IE8 by going to http://update.microsoft.com/, clicking the "custom" button and deselecting "Internet Explorer 8 install." If you've already installed IE8 and want to revert back to IE7, simply go to your control panel and double click "add/remove programs" and select "Uninstall IE8."
- Firefox by Mozilla is currently the second most used Internet Browser, offers speedy page loads and numerous amounts of add-ons to customize your browsing experience and provides the most compatibility outside of IE7 in rendering pages.
