Greetings,

Spring is finally here! As the weather gets warmer, it makes me realize how wonderful outside exercise can be for the mind and soul.  We have a beautiful city to enjoy jogging, walking, and sightseeing nature's treats for the eyes and soul.  Beautiful grass, flowers and Chicagoans springing back to happy, outside patio life.

Mercy Home for Boys and Girls 8th Annual Luncheon

                            mercyhome

Last year my friend Cheri from First Eagle Bank invited me to the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls Luncheon.  I must say that was one of the most amazing events I have ever attended.  In addition to celebrity guests such as Charlie Trotter, there were incredible life stories told by some of the Home's boys and girls.  It really put things in perspective for the entire audience, reminding us how lucky we are to have freedom, a warm loving home and plenty of food to eat.  The students come from all over the world including some from the Chicago area and they still need our help.

Speaking of food, they had a beautiful lunch in a lovely location with our future leaders and many giving people in attendance.  If you would like to attend this year's event, please register on their website http://www.mercyhome.org/gltickets/. The event is held at the Hilton Chicago on May 26, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. with Alex Kotlowitz as the keynote speaker.

New Windows 7 Feature Makes Running Your Legacy Programs Easier

AndrewSo your company is ready to make the jump to Microsoft's latest and greatest. You've run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, your hardware has passed all tests with flying colors, and all the software has passed... except, of course, the one program that your entire company relies on, which can only be run in Windows XP. Thankfully, Microsoft has included a solution for this issue in the form of Windows XP mode (found in all copies of Windows 7 except for Home and Starter editions.) XP mode takes backwards compatibility one step further than before. In the past backwards compatibility tried to fool the program into thinking it was running in an earlier Windows environment by trying to emulate the way Windows used to work. Now with XP mode, Windows 7 installs a full version of Windows XP that runs in what's known as a virtual environment through Windows 7, (think of it as Windows 7 runs Windows XP the same way as it would run a program.) From this virtual XP environment, legacy applications can be installed.

Best of all, after the original installation, Windows then integrates the program directly into the Windows 7 desktop. All programs that were installed under XP mode have a shortcut in the Windows 7 start menu. Users just have to click the legacy program and the application starts up in XP automatically.
